Lvl 117: Why Sitting on the Couch Watching Horror Films & Playing Horror Video Games is Beneficial

It's Halloween time! The most macabre time of the year. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty damn stoked. I mean, I LOVE horror. To some of you that may sound nuts. It'd be like saying I like falling from extreme heights. WHAT!?

But if I explained I like skydiving or riding roller coasters, you'd be like "Oh" Same thing. It's a thrill to watch horror movies or read the books or play the video games. It brings an adrenaline rush. It's sort of a "safe danger". Like a machete wielding maniac is a lot safer behind the LCD screen than behind my back, ya know? Anyway, it's not just the rush you get, but there's some awesome benefits to consuming horror media in any fashion. First, it helps you tackle anxiety. Like while playing a horror game, you have to stay calm. It's not your ability to maneuver the controls or know the mechanics that's gonna get you to beat the game. It's your ability not to FREAK OUT when something scary happens. If you can do that in a game, you can do that in real life. You have to handle some pretty tense moments in Dead Space, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. otherwise, it's game over. If you get jump scared and panic fire off your last bullet and miss, you may have just cost yourself your life. You have to stay relaxed to win horror game. Likewise, you have to stay relaxed in order to win life. And you know what? It's 2020, life IS a horror game. In short, watching horror movies and playing the games is a LAZY way to overcome anxiety and gain better emotional control. There are several more benefits of watching and playing horror stuff we talk about in today's episode. Anyway, Happy Halloween!
