Lvl 174: Waste Your Time and Embrace Your Leisure

Go ahead and waste your time man. Ya know, we're constantly, and I mean constantly, moving on from one obligation to the next.

We strive to make every single minute in our lives absolutely 100% productive...or at the very least we're certainly pressured to do so.

Any down time, time to relax, or otherwise Leisure (the big "L" in L.A.Z.Y) time is seen as such a "waste" in this hard-working, achievement-oriented society. What are you doing, you lazy bum, sittin around doin' nothin'? Get your ass up and get back to work!

Somehow your entire worth as a human being isn't tied to who you are but what you can do and what you can provide.

Even hobbies and recreational activities aren't something we necessarily spend time on to simply enjoy ourselves, but to get better, become more skilled, gain more knowledge, develop better techniques.

Heck, even vacation becomes following a freaking itinerary instead of taking the time to, what's that word again? RELAX! We book our vacation up with a plethora of activities and wind up coming back a week or so later feeling exhausted and in need of, get this, another vacation!

Wasting time has a such a bad stigma in our gun-ho productive society. But there's more to life than just achievement. There's more to life than just goal-getting.

I mean, how enjoyable can life be if you're constantly fatigued all the time? If you're constantly feeling drained mentally, emotionally, and physically, how can you ever be happy?

There's something we lose when we transition from childhood to adulthood and it's this idea of playing for fun instead of playing to win.

Being lazy, at least once in a while has its merits. Take time to ease on up and be fully and completely at rest. Do things to have fun or even for the sake of kicking your feet up just to savor the moment.

Live a life of desire, not obligation. Abide and do your own thing. Whether that's bowling, playing video games, or just lying on the couch not really doing anything, don't feel like that's any sort of "wasted" time.

While time is indeed limited, you can do with it what you want. Life is about what you manage to experience and enjoy, not what you manage to accomplish. Remember that.
